Perniciaro Admonishes Gianoulis For “Hijacking” King's Name at Event
Atlantic Beach, Fla. (June 23, 2010) - State Senate Candidate Charles Perniciaro is taking issue with Deborah Gianoulis for invoking the name of the late Senator Jim King in announcing her candidacy for the District 8 Senate seat yesterday.
“We respect Jim King for his character and huge accomplishments and regularly acknowledge his example as one to aspire to, but it's wrong for candidates to take advantage of that for their own gain,” Perniciaro said. “Deborah Gianoulis is not Jim King, and Jim isn't around to speak for himself. Trying to claim King as her own is a calculated political ploy that is both disrespectful and implausible.”
Perniciaro, who is the only candidate running against Senator John Thrasher for the nomination in the Republican primary on August 24, says he offers the best chance for voters in the district to oust “20-year, career politican Thrasher” from office this November.
“This is a heavily Republican District, with nearly 45,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats,” he said. “The primary is the real battle. If Senator Thrasher wins, he'll most certainly be going back to Tallahassee this fall. Our candidacy is the only one that offers the voters the chance to take back our government for the working people in our district.”
Perniciaro, a dermatologist and Atlantic Beach resident, officially filed to run in the race last week in Tallahassee. A political newcomer and 20-year resident of the district, Perniciaro currently serves as the Director of Dermatopathology at Bernhardt Laboratories in Jacksonville and had a distinguished research career at Mayo Clinic before he went into private practice.
